an old aussie newbie

Postby polymorphs » Tue Jan 29, 2013 5:15 am

Hey there,
I got the email telling me I was in and to post and introduction - so I thought I better come along and do it.

A bit about myself:
I played in bad punk bands from the late 80's through to the end of 99 when I moved interstate for the day job and basically just stopped playing - for some reason I always preferred to play in a band that just sit around and practice.

After 13 years of not playing I fell backwards at lunch once day, fractured my skull, suffered bleeding throughout the front part of my brain and a few other things (i.e. now have no sense of smell and my balance in stuffed). Spent two weeks in hospital in the head injury ward and then 2 weeks at home before starting to slowly go back too work.

It's now been 4 months as of today actually and I am happy to say I am pretty much back to normal having been given the clear by neurologist, neurosurgeon, endochronologist and passing my neuropsych assessment. So all in all I am as good as I am going to get.

However the injury meant I had to give up all my hobbies, and then it struck me. I used to love to play bass, and with the step up in gear I can now easily play along to tunes while not giving my wife a royal pain in the bum. So I have pulled out my '79 4001 Ricky and had it cleaned up (13 years under a house meant it was far from pristine) which I picked up today.

But the reason for this forum is my love of mosrites - Ramones fan and all, even flew to New York from Australia to see them on year because I was afraid they would never tour again (special thanks to Monte Melnick for putting my name on the door and getting me backstage pass - one of the best days of my life was when the girl at the door ask security where to send these guys "they're friends of the Ramones").

Currently I have either a Mosrite early 70's bass or a very good Japanese clone (certainly has age and if it is a copy they have put some serious work into it). It is at the same place I just picked up my Ricky from and they are going to research it for me - Tym if you get an email from Matt at Saltmine the bass he is talking about is mine :).

Next on my wishlist if a Mosrite Celebrity and also a Wosrite - I am going to start building a collection I think, because even an old man needs something to live for.

Well that's enough from me - off to play along with Dickies and Motorhead tunes for an hour or so before bed.

Catch you all on the forum.

Welcome Aussie!
Glad you've at least recovered for the most part. I wanted to buy a Wosrite from Tym many moons ago, but when I finally had the funds, there was a long line ahead of me, and he was trying to slow down on producing guitars. I really wanted one, as I felt Tym put alot of Mosrite soul into his work. I have been able to aquire several Mosrites since then, so it worked out well in the end.
