1st time Owner Ventures model

Postby Six of One » Sun Apr 24, 2016 11:52 pm

Hello! Mosrite lovers and owners. Just picked up A refin 66/67 Ventures model, once owned by Bob Shade.
Although this board doesn't seem to be as active as it once was, it is a great source of info with input by some premier builders and players. Thank you all for sharing invaluable info.

I also just picked up a 65 Body & neck that I am going to bring back to life.

I've played since the age of 9 but a serious left hand injury at 24 dampened my skills.
No, it didn't stop me from playing, but it did change the scope of my love for this instrument.
I was forced to relearn in a way that works with the damage.
At 58, life has finally allowed me to dedicate myself full time to Playing professionally, restoring and building guitars.

Hello and welcome to the forum! What guitar did you get that was previously mine? You don't have to disclose the info if you don't want to, I was just curious.

The 65 project sounds great! Let me know if you need any parts. I still have NOS parts from that period.

Rockin regards!

Is the '65 the black body and neck project from ebay?

Wow!
Thanks guys!

Bob Shade: The guitar is the '66 Gospel Gold Ventures model (re-christened Goldie Rox) with the Semie and Gene pick ups.
I had emailed you just before I purchased it, also asking about Pin Rollers for a Moseley trem unit I had come across.
BYW I found a seller on Ebay who carries NOS Torrington B-36 USA roller bearings.
I picked up 4 sets.

SO, you have parts !?
The project guitar is a '64 (I think i said '65?) Just a body and neck. It does have a pick guard, strap buttons and string guide :) and is in good condition, save for a bad neck refinish.

So far I have an original '65 Moseley unit and Bridge, a '65 Wiring harness with Volume and tone 'M' Knobs and switch tip; all perfectly functional but showing their age.
I just need a cruddy set of Kluson D's and a peanut plate to match up the finish with the above hardware.

For pick ups I have new Dana-Mo's and a set of M-3 DT's on order (AHEM) that I have to compare with to Goldie.

You know, with the $ I've spent so far, I could have got another cherry "all original" Guitar, but I was surprised to find that I couldn't bear...

WAIT !
After reading my parts list, Mr Shade, I will gladly pay for parts of better appearance that the ones I have.
I already have solder, wire and NEW B-36's :) Also Some Dana-Mo's and a set of M-3 DT's on order. AHEM.

Again thanks to all for the Welcome to the board!

Hello, well I do have some NOS Klusons from 1965. I could make you a 64 plate but it would take some time to get it plated and so forth. You may want to see if anyone else has an original.

You can PM me about the tuners if you are interested.

Best and glad the gold Ventures has a new proud owner :)

Thanks Bob

I'm not terribly concerned about the plate as it is just a cover plate. I can make a template from the '66 and there are a dozen plating companies around here to choose from.
I thank you for the kind offer. I will PM you soonish.

At any rate, I have other projects lined up and a move on the horizon that take priority.
I'll reassemble the guitar for the short term and use some new Klusons I have laying around.
