Serial number V0522

Hello there.

I found this Mosrite on Reverb. The serial number looks to be V0522. This forum has been most helpful so far..as the seller originally said it was a 1966..but then decided it could be a 1970s one. The pots on it are unreadable (i have pictures)...all i have its what it looks like and the serial number.

Could V0522 be a USA made 70s model? I cannot find this on the build list on this forum...

I just wanna make sure i'm buying original....i heard some of the 70s ones are more like to have Semie's input on them..

I only collect serial numbers of Celebrities. However, from the logo and the knobs it is definitely not from the 60's but from the 70's, likely after 1972.

Thank you...i am torn on this one. I think at £2500 its a little two expensive considering that it cannot be dated. However i'm pretty such its not a copy!

I do not know much about the solid body Mosrites. My passion is with the hollow bodies. Here are some examples of logos that help to date a Mosrite.

The 1960's had a logo that looked like this: "Mosrite of California"



When Mosrite started up again in 1972 the logo briefly looked like this: "Mosrite of California by Moseley"



Then it quickly went to this: "Mosrite of California by Semie Moseley"



There were a few other iterations, such as the "Square M" logo, etc. I would expect however that the same logo time periods applied for the solid body models as well.

The Celebrities are hollow body, like the ES-330. Later Mosrite made some with center blocks like the ES-335. I'd recommend the Celebrity-I or Celebrity-II as top shelf guitars. The CE-I is a thicker bout with deluxe amenities. The CE-II is the thinline version of the CE-I. The Celebrity-III is more of an entry level guitar, but still and awesome player.

I don't think it's a counterfeit. It looks genuine; an early 70's Mark 1, as Sarah suggested. Where it was made is hard to say...Semi moved around a bit in this period. It could have been in Nevada...? Some of these had slightly wider fretboards.
The Celebrities are worth looking into. My favorites are the honey colored flame maples. Would love to have one for playing west coast jump blues.

Yessss... After a few month searchin' for a genuine USA Mosrite (I mean, not a reissue or not a Fillmore one, or a copy, not anything like this. I make a digression : I have so much respect for these guitars - I got an great Eastwood Mach II, a Johnny Ramone Mark II copy, but I wanted one built by THE Man Semie or its team, I wanted a part of history, a part of Mosrite Spirit, not just a very fine looking guitar. And anyway I think I'll buy a Johnny Ramone Mark II reissue one of these days. End of digression).

So, I got her, my Mark I (a V-I to be precise ?). The V0522 one. Got her on eBay. She was around 2500£ (2900€, 3100$), had her for 2600$. The seller is an English vintage guitar shop.

She's got a few ding, nothing unusual for a not so young lady.

Pots are almost unreadable (some inscription, but very hard to read), anyway they don't look like CTS ones or something like that but they're not recent at all. I'll investigate later.

She's obviously old enough to be a early 70's one. The building is not a recent one, some screw are a little rusty, the wiring plastic looks old.

Looking at some guitars of this period (the V0187 one for example), with the serial number, with this headstock (the mention By Semie Moseley), with the pickups, the knobs, the tremolo, no doubt. It's an early 70's one. Dated 1974 by the seller if I remember. The case is a genuine one, exactly the same as cases I saw on the net for this period.

I'll give a look at the neck but I want my luthier to dismantle it.

Nice! I have V0122, also black. Mine is a little different in that it has a black neck and black headstock. The decal on the headstock is the same as yours and all the research I've done seems to suggest mine is '71/'72 era. I've never really known for sure though.
