It does have a pretty high action but is still quite playable in the lower register. For a smaller body, this guitar is LOUD! The neck is a set neck, but there is a small screw through the neck block inside the guitar.

Thanks. I had it in the list already, but without a photo and I didn't know the finish.

I also had forgotten to mention in the main topic until now that the Serenade isn't exactly a "set neck," and Jack Wildwood told me that the one screw is there so you can adjust the neck angle and lock it in place. So it's like the old neck tilt system seen in a 1930s Kay Kraft Banjo.

Wow! Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can get the action down. I really love this guitar and have wanted one for a long time. I just don't play it as often as I'd like because of the string height.
Here are better front and back pix of the Serenade from the folks I acquired it from, Nationwide Guitars.

I just closely inspected my Serenade. The slotted screw at the neck block is simply for neck reinforcement. The neck pitch cannot be adjusted, unfortunately. There is unbroken lacquer between the neck heel and body. Nice idea, anyway. I guess I'll need to send it off to a luthier for a proper neck reset. :(
