For you youngsters, here's a YouTube rendition of the original song. Walk On By ;)

Here's the lyrics.

This is great stuff. Thanks again Deke. I noticed Gino's guitar in the pics from Geek Fest and it caught my eye. How heavy is that guitar? I've never picked up a Mosrite double neck, but I would expect the solid bodies to be a bit hefty.

Oh yeah! They're heavy. You have to be a manly man to use 'em.

I remember there was a band in Japan who took a bunch of pictures with some very hip early Mosrite doublenecks (the Go-Devils? I can't remember exactly which band it was). When I met them over in Japan, they were playing Fenders. Keep in mind these guys were about 5 foot 2 and weighed about 90 pounds each. I asked 'em where the Mosrites were and you could see the pain in their faces as they said "Too heavy!" in broken English. ha.

Talking about Oriental cats liking heavy equipment--Paul Rivera (the amp guy) told me years ago that his biggest-selling amp in Korea was the 120-watt 4-10" combo with JBL's, weighing in at somewhere around 100 pounds. They must have some strong guitar players over there!

Ditto what Billy said.

I thought that I had overlooked an old thread until I started reading it …from the beginning this time (duh)
Deke, that is a wonderful story that you’ve shared with us, -it could have come straight from Charles Dickens' own pen! Thank you.

And Danny, I do remember the "Walk On By" song (I liked it!) when it was still being freshly aired on the radio…(yes, I know…that betrays me as not being a youngster  )
Thanks for the YouTube link too.

Yeah, what a nice thing to do, Deke! More to you.

When did Gino play with Link Wray? Did he record anything with him?

Gino had a great autographed picture "To Gino, from Link Wray"....wow, I wonder what happened to that when Gino died.

Anyway, Gino had nothing but bad things to say about Link! ha ha. I guess when Gino was playing in a house band up in Anchorage, Alaska, they used to bring up American stars to play there. When Link was hot with one of his hits in the late 50's, they flew Link up there without his band and apparently Link was not friendly to any of the band guys.

I told Gino that Link usually played with his brothers and he probably felt like a fish out of water, being around all these country guys that could play their asses off and Link doing his primitive rock and roll thing. Gino agreed.

By the way, Gino had a story about anybody you could think of, and it was usually filthy. he had the best stories, and now they're all gone. Probably better that the lawyers didn't get involved....
