The Ventures and their infamous white Mosrite's

Great Caravan video! Did The Ventures play Mosrites on the 'in space' album?

That nasty "bite" of Mosrite pickups is there. Love that sound.

Here's some more 'nastiness' with "Built in Soul."
Hey Zak, I hijacked your player, he NEEDS to be on here 8-)

Guitars

Phil Baugh was one of the great country Fender Telecaster players[3] along with James Burton and Don Rich. The entire album "Live Wire!" was recorded with his signature heavily customized Telecaster. But he also had other guitars, including a custom made doubleneck guitar from Mosrite and a Chet Atkins model Gretsch that according to Vern Stovall, frustrated him so much he smashed it against a wall.
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Baugh's "Live Wire" LP is one of my "desert island" records for sure.
Right up there with Joe Maphis as far as I'm concerned.

Back to the Ventures for a moment - the famous "Beloved Invaders" footage comes from their 1965 tour of Japan. I've always oggled those Mosrites and brownface Fender amps, but it only just occurred to me that those blonde/oxblood Showmans were built between 1961 and 1962, and so were at least three years old by the time the Ventures used them in Japan.

So, does anybody know - was this their standard touring setup, Japan or stateside? Did they bring the amps with them or use amps that were already in Japan?

Does anyone know of other earlier footage or pictures of Ventures live performances?
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

On the "Live On Stage" record they're pictured with blonde Guyatone amps, but I'm not sure if that was before or after the tour where "Beloved Invaders" was shot.
I remember reading something about Nokie using a brownface Fender Concert amp extensively in the studio as well (throughout the 60s). I'm guessing that they didn't fly their amps overseas but I may be wrong.
