So basically you're talking about kit guitars. Doing all the rough shaping and let the customer do the rest.

Yeah ;) ....why not?? That's basically what a few members have already done with the guy in Canada. Mel was the first one to attack his project by being the first on here to build a 'Tri-Powered Mo.' And probably no one else will take that challenge  including myself (LOL!).
And there have also been others (you guys know who you are ;) ) that either bought a neck, body, etc, either from Canada, E-Bay, friend, Craigslist, etc. With that being said, compare how much you spent to get your part from whomever, as opposed to purchasing that same piece from one of the members building that same part. There might not be that much difference in price. i.e.When you consider buying a guitar body (maybe from E-Bay) knowing that the chances are pretty good that you are going to end up sanding it down to bare wood again just to start over, weigh in the factor of time spent doing that, etc, and again then look at just purchasing a rough cut body, but it's ready to be finished.......

I guess Deke, Ed and Terry ran out of Semie stories. Too bad, I really enjoyed them. :)

the first time around ;) . But run out of Stories  ?????

Well since I'm on lay off I know I got a crap load of time on my hand to take on the challenge. And I know I could produce a body with the pickup, neck and control cavity routing. But as far as doing the German carve, I haven't dabbled in that yet. I could put the 1/2 cove bit around the top and have the customer do his work on it I guess. I have a piece of basswood coming to me that I bought off of ebay that I'm going to use for the next project so I'll use that as my Guinea pig.

Which brings up a question I've been wondering about. Were the original Mosrites
Basswood, Alder, Poplar or something else?

I think they were both alder or basswood. I've heard they used both.

I think Kev is right, with the majority of them being produced w/basswood......

I think that Nokie model body I got from Curtis was Swamp Ash. Anyway, let me know how that body-making works out, Kevin. If I had the space and equipment, I'd tackle it, too.

:D Well Dennis, this what I have to work in not too spacious but it does the trick. I built this about 3 years ago cause I needed space for my tools. I just need to brush all the saw dust off my wife's Christmas and Halloween decorations when I'm done building.
