yea I have seen pix and a few vintage Mosrites in real and noticed the pickguard hang over on some.
still, for the price I don't think it's too good.
for almost 2k you can buy a Gibson sg and I bet it is quality.
but we are talking Mosrites here so Hallmark sells a GREAT guitar for less but the feel and sound just arent the same.
I love the Ranger but feel it is more like a $700 guitar not 1800

I'm curious about the pickguard overhang thing. I'm familiar with it on some of the Excellent 65's I've had and wondered why some have it and others don't. No doubt there's some sort of template used in cutting the guards and body routing is done by machine, so wouldn't they all be consistent?

Good question Bill. If I was to guess, probably all the pickguards were pretty
much cut the same. However on the other hand, it might of had to do with
how the Bodies were sanded WITH the German Carve on the Pickguard side
and might of not lined up perfectly on the pickguard side.................

The pickugard on the Excellent 65 I used to have lined up with the carve better than on my '66.

My '64 has pick guard over hang in a couple of places.

When I talked to Dana Moseley, she said the Ranger's were quality guitars but the electronics were cheap. Also the setup from the factory leaves a lot to be desired but she said they can be dialed in to being a pretty decent guitar compared to the more expensive models. If they are selling for $1800 bucks, that ain't a cheap model.

'For What It's Worth' (Sounds like a good Title for a Song, doesn't it?), I just
'dug up' my '63, and yes it too has a little bit of an 'overhang' to it as well....

I got my Ranger this week, not cheap is right!
I think the "new" American ones made by Dana are right around $3,500 the mark1 is $2,500 and the Ranger mk1 is $1,800.
the guitar plays great and sounds great but for the price I thought it would be better quality.
I spent less for my Jazzmaster and it was the best of the best.
still I think Hallmark makes a better guitar than Fillmore...and for less than half of a Fillmore.
sorry to say the sound is way off on the Hallmark but change the pots to 500k or 1megs and you get close but still not there.
oh well, buy what you like I guess............. I did!

ps. the set up on mine was GREAT! I won't say who I got it from 'cause I think everyone hates him here and in Las Vegas...ha ha

preeze,
Your last sentence in your post had me concerned, only because this Forum is not going to 'shoot you down' for purchasing from a Retailer who deals with a certain brand of guitars. As long as YOU have had a good experience with that Retailer, that's all that matters. And we ALSO appreciate your 'Feedback' back to the FORUM, whether it be a Good or Bad experience, just to give everyone a 'Heads Up' what to look for, or to expect, from that Retailer ;) .....

aghhhhh........ it was Ed Roman.
and the truth is they treated me very good.
the fist guitar they sent was junk, had so many problems that they gave me a new one.
the guys were really nice too but from what I hear, most people have the opposite with them.
the sales man was Scott and the guitar luthier was Bob.
they really did go out of their way to help.
musicians friend is great but they never asked how I wanted my guitar set up and the guys at Romans did.
I like strings on my guitar, that's about it.
I'll shut up now!
