A new Mosrite owner

It seems that I have just purchased myself a '66 Mosrite. Many of you probably seen this guitar for sale on Surf Guitar 101 and heard the sad story by now. If not you can view it at the links below.

Well Zuma's brother listed it on eBay. I was one of the bidders however someone else won the auction. Apparently the winner didn't come through and I was offered a 'second chance' with a 'buy it now' feature. So, it looks like I will be getting the guitar. I hope the money goes for a good cause as it was such a sad tragedy.

My intentions are to put the guitar back completely stock.

Sidenote: I was bidding on the '64 S.B. Bass but had to let it go just recently. One of my 3000GTs decided it wanted some attention, so the Evaporator blew for the A/C. So instead of me buying another Bass, the $1,300 is going to go to the GT.

Apparently it has or had an on board preamp with the previous Seymour Duncan pup's. That's why they moved the input jack to the bottom edge of the guitar and installed a switch in the input jack hole on the pick guard. As for putting it back to normal it should be a piece of cake. I'll turn some Alder wood on my lathe to the diameter of the hole, plug it and use my air brush to feather in new black lacquer to conceal the repair. Then toss out the preamp stuff and rewire to original specs. I'm a firm believer that a modified vintage guitar should be restored to original condition for posterity.

Thanks, Vincent. I'll bet it won't be too big of project. If that black finish is original I'll be a happy camper. I know the neck has be stripped and refinished, but I'll just have to wait and see.
