That's interesting. Are the differences just the thickness or is the body smaller in size, too?

Excellent (Kurokumo or Black Cloud) has many different models. You have to compare apple to apple (or closest as possible)

I have two Kurokumos. One is a replica of 1963 side jack (set in neck, boned body), the other is a Nokie Edwards signature model (bolt on neck, bonded body, neck is a little wider than 63 side jack)

Here are the photos: (both autographed by Nokie Edwards; lead guitarist of The Ventures)

I've got these two guitars a few years ago.

Nokie Edwards of The Ventures is my big guitar hero. When I saw the following picture in "Vintage Mosrite" book, I started to look for the same model. I was shocked by the outrageous prices for the vintage ones in the market.

When I saw this Japanese replica being sold on eBay, I bought it right away. This deluxe model was probably one the last few produced by Kurokumo before they lost their Trademark legal battle to Fillmore a few years back. It is not a real thing but a very nice replica. It plays and sounds pretty good too. The set in neck is narrow and thin just like the real '63 model.

Later on, I got to know Nokie in person and bought the second one directly from him. Kurokumo made this prototype for Nokie. (early 2000?) The project did not go for some reasons. The neck is a little wider than the above '63 model. But to my surprise, Kurokumo did not make this one with set in neck but bolt on neck instead.

I am not sure whether Kurokumo are still making these two models or not. You may have to look in the used market. Hope these info help.
