Re: Mistake plates

If I were going to extend the pickguard I'd certainly make it the same colour as the rest of it that's for sure.I don't know what this one is all about. Also what would be the purpose of extending that part of it?
GattonFan wrote:Got an answer back from the seller - he said he will not remove the plate above the pickguard, as there is no damage. This is (according to him) a pickguard extender (???) made by Semie himself, and actually adds value to the guitar. Anyone ever seen one of these? Also, I'm going to replace the trem bearings in one of my MIJ clones ... is this tricky to do?

Thanks,

Dennis

dorkrockrecords wrote:Secondary pickguards have always been a way to customize/personalize Mosrites and the like, although I've only seen a very few examples. The pickguard material does look right though, so if it is indeed the vintage celluloid four-ply tortoise shell stock I'd say it's "original" - either done by Semie or Gene Moles, etc.

Here is a top secret example of one such secondary guard. Shhhh...

Adam, can you also tell us how the "Gene Moles" P'guard was attached?

No and no. You're gonna have to talk to Andy Moseley for details. Not sure how original the guitar is (note top AND side jacks), but I'm pretty sure the trem is the old Maphis style with the bearings inserted directly into the wooden body.

HOLY KR*P!!!! IS THIS POSSIBLY THE EXPERIMENTAL "STEREO' GUITAR THAT SEMIE
AND GENE WERE EXPERIMENTING WITH, IN ANSWER TO GIBSON'S 355?!?!?!?!?!?!?
p.s. and later, Semie would come out with the 350 Stereo in the early 70's????
I remember reading about this/that guitar quite a while back........????
Like the majority of the early Stereo guitars, one pup (output jack) went to one amp,
and the other pup (the other output jack) went to another amp.........

That may be hard to do. The last report I got when visiting Front Porch was that Andy had been placed in a 'home' due to failing health. It was reported that his daughter is the one now selling 'his' items on eBay. That would explain why 'certain things' have recently occurred such as one of our forum members problem with his purchase and why Andy no longer has his bio information regarding being Semie's brother on the Mosriterino auctions on eBay.

I'll add the other two photos I have, but that's where my info ends unfortunately.

Adam, thumbs up for those pix! ;) The Headstock on my '88 has Binding as well,
just not as thick, and mine does not get thicker when it comes into the String Guide......

A bound headstock on an '88?! I'd sure like to see that...

I believe these early pre-Ventures examples actually have faux binding - I think the headstock is covered in black plastic and the "binding" is simply painted on.

This '88 I'm speaking about was my own personal guitar that I had "custom-ordered" with
Semie and Loretta when my Wife and I were up in Jonas Ridge back in '88. ;)

Dennis,
I think I speak for us all when I say that guitar of yours sounds like it deserves its own thread.
