Jonas Ridge NC Buildings (Shops.)

Postby EF@MosriteRecords » Fri Aug 21, 2009 6:46 pm

The picture that Dennisthe Menace posted of the RED Wood buildings are the Jonas Ridge, NC shops. Read my reply
on the Topic "Is this the old factory? "Well in this case that picture is of the Jonas Ridge NC shops. I stayed with and worked with Semie in those old buildings in the 80's/90. That's a old Trailor at the far end of what is showing at the far right in the picture at the left is the grassy slope up to the house. The dirt road went and still does go back past the house and out onto the hwy road. I have many pictures of the inside of those buildings and today could still tell you about each room. Oh the memories. I will check out my photo's to compare what I took a couple of years ago
when Andy and I went up there. Stay tuned. Luv Elaine

Elaine,
Do you have any PIX of inside their home next to the Red Factory of J.Ridge? When my Wife and I were up there in FEB '88, Semie and Loretta invited us into their Home. The one BIG thing that caught my attention, was the Clock on the wall. The Hands were made up of the Mosrite guitar necks and Headstocks from the "Walk Don't Run 64 Vol II." Nokie's Headstock (Sunburst) was the Main Hand, Don's Headstock (C.A.R.) was the Little Hand, and Bob's Headstock (Metallic Blue) was the Seconds Hand. I'm hoping you might have a Picture of that Clock. I had run out of Film (remember Film?) for the Camera, but that Clock is 'etched in stone in my brain.' :(

Hi Dennis. Yes I do most are on my "harddrive". The earliest would be from 1980's the latest
would be from 2007/08. As you may know Loretta had changes made to the front and entry
area from what it was in late 80's. I can bring up the latest photos. My husband will have to convert the Photos from 35mm and Transparencies. The kitchen that was off to the right as you come in the front room is still like it was only updated.

Elaine had posted:

:( Sadly, this would be the last time (Jonas Ridge, North Carolina) that my Wife and I would actually see 'Uncle Semie' and
Loretta (1988, although Semie had restored my original '63 'Ventures Model' back in 1990-1991 [and it took forever LOL]).
We did keep in touch with Semie and Loretta all the way up to March or April of 1992 when we had heard that Semie had gotten sick.

THE JONAS RIDGE SHOPS AS THEY WERE IN 2006-7 ON A TRIP THERE

Postby EF@MosriteRecords » Wed Nov 11, 2009 6:45 pm

On a previous thread of the Old Shops by Dennis I promised I would search
for more recent photo's than the late 80's early 90's. They as you can see are in
poor shape. The Old Trailer at the end of the buildings shy of the once Red Barn
paint faded to a rust brown. The picture was taken on a morning that was a dreary day in Jonas Ridge. It was sad to see what has happened. Most of what's there that was Mosrite is in the Basement under the house. Those old Barn Shops, not been maintained in years. The house trailer is where Jesus' stays I believe. A sad
ending to something that Semie Created and made so many guitars there . PHOTO"S TAKEN LATE 2006.

Before I end I would like to send out a question to all Forum members. ANDY took Richard and I to the Grave Site. If ya all would like me to take you there in photo's I will Respectfully post them with the agreement no one reproduces them. It would be for Forum Members only. It is in Beautiful Country up in those Mountains and I know many
will never make it up there.Image

Luv to all
