Hi, my name is jeff and I'm 62, a Viet Nam Vet, I was in Cam Ranh Bay, I learned to play guitar in the service from buddies of mine. I have always played "by ear" I can read music but not much faster than my typing. I own about 13 guitars, some strats, a les paul, some telecasters, a martin 00018, a fender jazz master and an Elk guitar that I bout in Okinawa in 1967. It's a 12 string and plays like a dream. The action is so low you can't believe it doesn't buzz, I've played in bands from cover rock to 30's 40's 50's 60's bands to wedding gigs and the last was an Irish band called Fanangan's Taxi, I'm a singer songwriter but have no real published songs although many of the bands I played in did some of my originals.
I joined this forum because someone told me my Elk 12 string may be a Mosrite copy? I was trying to find someone who could give me a value for this guitar or a least help me find a source. I an NOT interested in selling the guitar only to find a value for it. I can upload pictures if that will help. So, Hope to here from someone soon, in the meantie I'll check out the rest of the forum.

Is your Elk 12-string a solid-body electric? Sounds like you scored a good one, there.

I look forward to someone on this forum coming up with info on it. I have learned so much from reading the various posts here. I thought that I had a fairly good knowledge of obscure 1960s guitars until I started hanging out here!!!

Welcome, I've seen an Elk Mosrite copy on eBay but it was a double neck. I could post a picture of it if you'd like to see it, I document Mosrite auctions on eBay for reference.

Elk was a Japanese amplifier company that produced a varied line of electric guitars in the '60s and '70s to accompany their amps. Many of these instruments fall firmly within the "bizarre" or "eleki" categories, and the Mosrite inspiration of some is clear.

Below is a photo of Takeshi "Terry" Terauchi surrounded by a bevy of Elk amplifiers and guitars.



Fair market value for an Elk electric guitar in good condition in Japan (where they are very common) is around $600.

I saw the double neck on ebay which prompted me to contact that seller to get some info and he sent me here. I'll post a picture as soon as I can get one. It's a sunburst solid body and now that I've been looking, it looks very much like a mosrite.

Hey Jeff,

Great to have another 'old timer' join us here on the forum. I was starting to feel out numbered. Be sure and check out our demographic survey at the top of each forum. Also, not all of us us are die hard Mosrite players. I have a few Mosrites in my collection but my main axe is a Stratocaster when playing with a band. However I love my custom built (Mosrite clone) guitars and double neck too. So don't feel any reservations about jumping in and participating any where on the forum. It's all about Mosrite appreciation and especially honoring Semie Moseley and his numerous contributions to the industry. Besides the more you hang around here, sooner or later you're sure to add a Mosrite or two to you arsenal.
