"SEMIE MOSELEY MODEL" A NEW MODEL IS BORN IN 1992 IN ARK.

Postby EF@MosriteRecords » Sun Mar 14, 2010 5:14 pm

For years off and on I talked to Semie about putting out a "Semie Moseley Model." Well
as far as I know I never saw one until I asked him to build be a "Plain Jane Guitar" but with a 3 color Sun Burst like the 63's and earlier guitars. This was in late 1991. I can remember talking to him about, "that I would love to have a instrument like this so I would have a modern single neck made during the 40th year of Mosrite", and it would be in a 40th Anniversary Case, which it was when I received it. It would also match my big Double Neck Semie (in the 3 color spray style) built me. While I do not know if the guitar was completely finished before he had to stop working. I know he had it sprayed and was close to completion. I know that at the time it was the only one. The Serial is SMP001 (Semie Moseley Prototype). As more guitars were turned out before the Arkansas factory closed, there may be several, who knows. Probably less than 25. The money was in the "Ventures Models". I am pretty sure that attention was directed in that manner. This guitar is sure at the tail end of work Semie did. It was certainly fitting that in the 40th year of MOSRITE that Semie the "creator" have his name on one of his instrument's. Oh by the way CHECK out the the wood and grain pattern on the fretboard. And notice the 3 color burst on the Headstock edges as shown in the closeup of the headstock. I thank the family for seeing that I received it only a couple of weeks after his passing. Thanks !
God Bless this Special Man.
I miss him so.
Love to all ;)

This used to be mine. Andy told me it was a prototype from around 1984.

That's cool dockrock. That's why I posted this guitar so we all can see if Maybe Semie did it before. Can you post a complete picture.

Again to Dockrockrecords. I would love to see the Body Neck and Hardware Choice.
Semie was in Jonas Ridge at this time and building my big Double Neck. And I would love to see details of this instrument. The circle "S" cool too. Hope you have these photo's.
I will talk to Andy why, if he knows what Semie had on his mind at that time in 84.
I know why he did it in the 40th year.

I've seen "Semie Moseley" (instead of "Mosrite of California") labeled headstocks as early as 1976 on certain SM models. Seems only fitting considering.

Back to dockrockrecords. Do we know if this is a one off. It is marked "Custom".
I have of course seen guitars marked "semie moseley or "by semie moseley" in script or not.
I am trying to find out did Semie ever consider coming out with a Semie Moseley model.
I doubt it. But we will never know if Andy or Mark does not have that information.
To be con't.

I grabbed these photo's off the internet a couple of years ago. Unfortunately all I have are photo's but no other information.

Here is an excerpt from an email I received from Andy several years ago:

This guitar was made in 1984 and was assembled with original USA parts --it
was made to take photos of . The photos were sent off to get a trademark
registration for the name but the PTO refused because they said it was
primarily a persons name. While this was being done this guitar was stolen
from the Jonas Ridge NC factory and never heard from again until now.

Hey guys! Do you see that these guitar's from the 80's 84 or what if Adam is right. The keys are not slotted. I checked all my 1981 thru 1988-89 built Mosrite's and the one Semie built me in 92 have slotted key shaft's. The ones Dennis posted have the non-slotted shafts also.

My 1984 California Grape American model prototype also had non-slotted Gotoh tuners.
