Hi. My name is Dave and I am trying to find info on my Mosrite Venture/Award BG 500 amp. I was told that the line of amps never made it to mass production and very few BG 1000 and 500's were sold to the public.
If you have any info that could help me on a collector or what the value is, I would be Thankful.
Peace,
Dave

Welcome Dave, there are some forum members who own Mosrite Venture/Award amps too and I'm sure they'll chime in. Meanwhile, you could use the "Search" feature here; type in "Award amp" or related words

I haven't played on it. Im a collector of many things. I came acroos a couple of old amps years ago and am now looking to sell them. I found out alot of info and that the Venture line was never put into full production. Very few amps were made and sold to public. I have seen the Bg 1000 sold for 2 grand. I cant seam to find a value or one that has been sold in the past to see what it is worth. If you have any info you could share I sure would appreciate it.
Have a great day!

There's been a Mosrite amp (bass) on eBay for a looooong time, listed at BIN price of $875 - just hasn't sold at that price.

Those amps are really more hit and miss due to the failure rate of the demo models sent to stores. There were models shipped but they mostly all came back for repairs. Apparantly corners were cut in the assembly, the desgin itself was sound and the protoypes given to The Ventures worked fine. Rare? Yes. Worth $2k, probably not.

This is probably the $2000 amp you are referring to. Read Marty's explanation about the purchase. These amps just are not that desirable unless you find that needle in the hay stack that just has to have one and doesn't care about the cost. Like vjf1968, stated, there's been a similar one on eBay for more than a year for around $875 with no takers.

At low volume, guitar notes have a lot of hair on them. That may be due to leaking old caps or somesuch. I do wanna take it to a tech for that and to get the tremelo/ vibrato circuit happening. Its the first amp I've experienced that actually gets cleaner the more ya turn it up. Although low volume notes are a bit fuzzy (yes, even when the Fuzzrite is off), it has no DC hum whatsoever. It is dead silent in idle.
The Fuzzrite on this thing absolutely sings. It has the great Fuzzrite sound and sustains forever. I've read on this forum where some say the Award amp Fuzzrites sound more compressed. I'd probably go along with that but I haven't given it the A/B acid test against my Sanner, NOS reissue, or the original germanium Fuzzrite the guitarist in my band has.
I realize Moseley had nothing to do with this amp but sell the rights to use his Mosrite name on it. I took the plunge because I am primarily a Ventures collector. The Ventures used this amp in '67 and '68 and I can see why they liked it. It also looks very nice next to the BG-500.

Just an addendum to my post. You are looking at a solid state amp that was wonky from jump, possible leaky capacitors, and other anomalies to numerous to count. If one finds a BG-1000 or BG-500 that works, then great, but vintage solid state amps do not have the same cache or the ease of repair that vintage tube amps do.
I do wonder if the Mosrite, or Ventures name were not attached would anybody give these amps a second look?
