My name is Mike and I'm living on Long Island, New York in North Babylon. I grew up near the beaches in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. My home town was the home of the Bel Airs (and Rick Griffin)
I've ALWAYS loved surf guitar, listening to the Ventures and other hits of the day: Wipe Out, Pipeline etc on the radio as a kid. Got my first Challengers album from my high school girlfriend's older sister in the mid 70's. Didn't know much about guitars, let alone Mosrites until I heard about them in the early 80's via the B-52's. That fat sound just got me and renewed my interest in surf music...thank you Jon and the Nightriders!!!
Started playing kinda late in life in mid 90's but was solely focused on learning classic surf songs. Started with a cheap Fender Strat. Immersed myself in learning and moved on to a Jazzmaster Reissue, then a vintage Jaguar and ultimately....a 65 Mosrite Ventures. I'm not a great player at all and haven't played much since I was forced to sell my beloved in 2002 after a post 9/11 work layoff. I'm itching like crazy to get back into it. In the meantime I've been building virtual Mosrites with my 3D CAD software for fun and inspiration.
I'm looking forward to meeting folks here and learning more about the beautiful creations Semie left us!
Cheers and best to all!
Mike
PS. I got relocated to Toronto for a while and still work for a Canadian company remotely from NY. Guess my computer is still set for Canada judging by my "Location"
