Slab Body MK II vs Fender Mustang

I was looking through photos and I noticed a strong (maybe it's just me) resemblance of a 1965 Mustang to the original Slab Body MKII. Does anybody know if this was intentional?

Mike, IMO I believe they were going after the Mustang with their MK II. But Semie
said he did not like it and he thought it looked cheap....enter....the Mark V..... ;) .
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.
