66 ventures in red metal flake

dont know how many of the 1966 ventures mark 1 guitars were metal flake. our dad bought my brother this guitar new in 66. i remember it being red sparkle, but i havent seen it in a long time. he never took any pics of it. when my brother came down to florida to visit, i told him to bring the mosrite so we could do a little mosrite jamming together.

i took a few pics of it. it definately is metal flake.its not the big flakes. standard flakes are usually .015. this guitar has .008 flakes. needless to say, the clearcoat has checked nicely.

this is his one and only electric guitar he owns. he never bought another guitar.

i did some pickup inspection and found the neck pickup was 9.8k and the bridge pickup is 8.9k. i had the understanding that mosrite pickups were 11-13k. not his. they still sounded great.

so, were ventures mosrites in metal flake a common thing back then?

Judging from the fingerboard (last picture), it's been well played...what a beaut!

he owned a Galanti guitar when he was 14 yrs old and when he turned 17, dad got him this mosrite. he sold the Galanti to a band member.



he bought a yamaha 12 string acoustic in the early 70s when he was in the navy.

he still has the 12 string. it has seen some serious playing also, but he still plays it regularly.

What a wonderful instrument. He must have really enjoyed that guitar to not have another through all his years after he got the Mosrite. I guess the Mosrite speaks for itself and he didn't find the need to have other guitars.

It's nice to see a guitar with that many years on it, and in the condition this one shows...lot's of TLC over many years on this one!

that guitar has been handled by his 5 children. only the last child showed any interest in playing guitar. now he's 23 and loves grunge and heavy metal. he loves to play this guitar on stage thru his big stack. my brother just shakes his head and says "thats not what that guitar was meant for". but it does sound good even when all distorted and grungy.

You can dress them up in the finest you can provide, and watch them as they go out the door... After that, what they do is up to them!

I'm sure a lot of guitar builders have been shocked at how their creations are used, and abused.

I love the chunkier metal flake look! It gives a new sheen to it, and the weird parallel of all the checking lines is just spectacular! That worn rosewod definitely adds some wisdom to it.
