My Combo Arrived!

Postby Green Bear » Mon Jul 30, 2012 10:23 pm

She just arrived after the Ebay purchase and so far I'm pretty pumped!!! For those that don't check all the sub forums, I had alot of help and input from other members in the eBay forum so I'd like to thank all those folks again (Veenture, Vibramute, Dennis, etc.).

The serial number ended up being even lower than expected at H0011 - I'm assuming that means it was the 11th one made??. Don't know if I will ever know whether it is all original or not. That said, I already want to add a strap button because the horn design is uncomfortable, so I'm going to ruin that aspect of it if by chance it is all original. Where would you guys recommend me putting it?

Thanks again!

Congratulations - that's a beautiful guitar!

As for an additional strap button - I'd look for a way to attach it using the neck mounting screws. Either replace one of the screws with a longer one with a washer on the end (as the strap button), or get longer screws for each neck mounting position, mount a block of wood to the back and screw the strap button into that. May not be pretty but you wouldn't be making permanent modifications.

Good to hear you are so happy with your nice red Combo. That was good advice by Mel about the strap button. Try to keep it original but should you decide to reposition the horn strap button, convince yourself first that you are comfortable with the new position by doing a kind of mock-up first.

That red finish is stunning!

Can't see anything non-original from the pictures.

Maybe the flat back might take a little while to get used to, but I think you did great!

How is the action?

She's a real beauty! I'm with the others though, try and add the button without doing any permanent change.

I'm going to have to confess ignorance of the construction details of this model, but, if it is a bolt-on neck, I have found it works quite nicely to get a slightly longer screw of the same thread size, remove the original screw, and attach a new strap button directly to the backing plate...something tells me this would be too simple though...

ORnR,
That'll work too, as this model has a bolt on neck. The only issue is that the neck attachment screws are wider than strap button screws. Nothing you can't fix with a drill, though.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys for strap button configurations that won't modify the actual guitar.

As to the question about action: Ridiculously low 8-). If I can manage to find a ruler or tape measure I'll edit this post and let you know the measurement.

Great looking guitar in a flashy great color! It appears to be original in all aspects and such a low serial number-Wow!. Please don't change the originality of this beautiful instrument as they are limited in numbers in pure form, especially the early ones. The longer screw with a little screw modification would be the best way to go, me thinks! Be sure to keep the original screw in the case.
