Need to identify this guitar

Hi All,

I recently picked this guitar up at an auction with the intention of reselling after a bit of fun with it -- or maybe I'll sell my Gretsch and keep it... not sure. But, before I do any of that, I want to figure out more about this guitar. I've been researching a bit, but I figure you all would know right off the bat. Here she is:







The serial number is V0365. Any idea of the year. I'm thinking early 70's? It looks like the hardware is original, thoughts? If I were to sell, what would be a reasonable asking price? It's in really good shape, no notable scratches or dings.

Anything you can tell me about it would help. One thing I can say is that it works and sounds great. The pickup switch is a bit sticky but other than that it's a lot of fun to play.

Hi, and welcome.

This is most likely a 1970s model, due to the V and low serial number. The headstock also looks larger than 60s models, but the definite way to check is the width of the neck at the zero fret. Measure that, and if it's around 1 5/8 or 1 11/16, it's definitely a 70s model.

You could also check these areas for dates:

Bottoms of Pickups (you have to remove them to look)
Bottoms of the Potentiometers (Volume & Tone Knobs, with the pickguard removed.)

The Pots should say something like "72" (that is, 1972) and then "30" (30th week of 1972.)

Also, here's a small history of this type of Mosrite guitar up to 1974.

1962/63ish: Mosrite made prototypes of this, as a Joe Maphis model. Nokie Edwards of The Ventures found it, liked it, and these ended up being Ventures models. Joe got a model later, but with a different shape.
1963 - at least mid 1967: Sold as the Ventures model.
Mid 1967ish to February 13, 1969: Models were built without a Ventures logo, and they were called "Mark I" models.
February 14, 1969 to 1970 (Unknown date:) Mosrite didn't have their name, but got it back in 1970.
1970/1971 - 1974 (roughly speaking:) This is when your guitar was likely built. These models differ from earlier ones, as previously mentioned. I forgot to mention that for this period, these were officially "V I" models. However, that's not as widely recognized as a name, so you could call this a Mark I.

Yes, roughly speaking; I'm not sure when Semie got the Mosrite name back. Also, I heard that Semie lost the name again in 1973/74 and it's not as well known, but I'm not sure how true that is.

Yes that Mosrite is an early 70s. I have one too but in a red cherryburst with matching headstock. The writing on the headstock is a dead giveaway it is an early 70s when Moseley came out of BK protection.
