Thanks Walt, you will be missed.

Postby philharmonic » Mon Mar 02, 2009 10:36 am

Hello,

I am the proud new owner of two original Mosrite guitars. The original owner was my father-in-law and former soundman, Walter Kniola, who probably purchased them in Chicago in the late sixties. One is a maroon sunburst 1967 Combo made in Bakersfield in good to excellent condition. The other is a Ventures model Ser. No. 4677 in poor condition. The reason I joined this forum is to get advice on maintaining the Combo and restoring the Ventures model. I am very new to the world of Mosrite guitars, but I am ready to learn. I already have a list of questions but I guess this isn't the place.

Thanks Walt, you will be missed.

Phil

Welcome, Phil! You are very fortunate to have these guitars passed on to you, and there is plenty of expertise on repairing, maintaining, and even building for you to draw from here at the forum. Just start searching through the various sections and enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the forum Phil,

Sorry about the loss of your father in law, sounds like the guitars went to a good home. Hopefully we'll be able to help you get the Ventures model up to snuff. Feel free to ask all the questions you want as well as post some photo's.

Thanks Everyone! The guitars have definitly come to a good home. I bought a little Fender tube amp and I'v really been enjoying playing the Combo. It's so hard to describe - it's so easy and smooth to play, but yet it has it's own agenda. I love the sounds that I am hearing, though.

Phil,
That is one CLEAN looking COMBO for a 43 year old piece! If the V & T knobs were never replaced, then I would say that this is a later '66 Combo, not a '67.
You see, in Jan-Feb of '67, Mosrite went to the TALLER KNOBS, and they no longer had the V or T on the knobs. What makes your COMBO Piece so unique, is that she came with the Original Case as well, and those particular Cases (as well as the Doubleneck cases) are impossible to find ;) .

p.s. BTW, BRUTUS is gonna freak when he sees that we have another Combo Owner on board  .
